Warning: This Is Not A Spoiler Free Review.
The novel The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, tells the story of blonde bombshell, Evelyn Hugo, and her seven husbands. No one knows the real Evelyn, therefore, she hires a journalist, Monique Grant, to write her biography. I believe that everyone should read this book, however, I should warn that the is a trigger warning for domestic abuse, something I didn’t before reading this book.
My Thoughts (Spoilers):
I really did adore this book, I must say that this book almost made me cry at the end of the novel when it was revealed that one of Evelyn’s ex-husbands (Harry, I believe) was in love with Monique’s father. I was surprised to learn that Evelyn was a bisexual woman, however, I didn’t see any misrepresentation of the LGTBQ+ community within the novel, please correct me if I am wrong about this point. I do know that the novel did use dated terms for the community, I am not denying that factor of the novel, but I do understand that society was less accepting the LGTBQ+ community. I also did love how Cecilia and Evelyn kept coming back to each other, that was a heartwarming aspect of the novel. Another aspect of the novel that I loved is that Harry and Evelyn were soulmates and that he was the only man in her life that treated her right.
Please let me know if you’ve read this book and if you did or didn’t enjoy it.
